Organization: Tri-Boro Tots Incorporated
Location: Kinnelon, NJ
Position: Board of Directors Member
Commitment: 10-12 hrs/year (2-3 hrs/quarter) for quarterly meetings; 5 hrs/year for annual retreat; additional time for ambassadorship and fundraising
Reports To: Board Chair
About Us:
Tri-Boro Tots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives and livelihoods of all Tri-Boro (Bloomingdale, Butler, Kinnelon, NJ) residents and businesses. Our mission is to make the Tri-Boro area the best place to raise a family. Our board of directors is a critical part of our governance and strategy. We are currently seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our board in the following advisory roles:
- Shop Local Advisory Board Members (2 positions)
- Community Health Advisory Board Members (2 positions)
Board Member Responsibilities:
As a member of our Board of Directors, you will be expected to:
1. Quarterly Board Meetings (4 per year)
- Attend quarterly board meetings in-person lasting approximately 1-2 hours each.
- Participate in discussions, review financials, and contribute to the strategic direction of the organization.
- Estimated time: 10-12 hrs/year (2-3 hrs/quarter)
2. Annual Board Retreat (1 per year)
- Attend a half-day workshop once a year focused on deepening strategic thinking and long-term decision-making.
- Estimated time: 5 hrs/year
3. Oversight & Governance
- Ensure the mission and purpose of the organization remain clear and relevant.
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational development.
- Support the organization’s financial health, including oversight and fundraising efforts.
- Monitor programs and services to ensure they align with our mission.
- Help enhance the organization’s public image and visibility.
- Estimated time: Flexible, based on individual capacity and initiatives.
4. Ambassadorship & Fundraising
- Actively represent and promote Tri-Boro Tots in your personal and professional networks.
- Lead at least one fundraiser each year relevant to your area of interest or expertise.
- Estimated time: Flexible, based on individual capacity and initiatives.
Specific Roles:
Shop Local Advisory Board Members (2 positions)
- Support our efforts to engage local businesses in our initiatives and develop strategies to enhance community engagement and support.
- Provide advice and direction on how to collaborate with local businesses for mutual benefit.
- Leverage your network and knowledge of the local business ecosystem to help guide and grow our “Shop Local” initiatives.
Community Health Advisory Board Members (2 positions)
- Offer guidance on community health initiatives and programs that align with our mission to improve the well-being of those we serve.
- Provide insights into emerging health trends and help ensure that our programs meet the needs of the community.
- Engage your network to build partnerships and awareness of our health-related initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong interest in the mission and work of Tri-Boro Tots Incorporated.
- Background or expertise in economic development, small businesses, community health, physical or mental health, programs or other relevant experience.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a group and contribute to decision-making processes.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Previous board experience is a plus but not required.
